This is a brake pedal I designed in Solidworks for Team Phantom, Simon Fraser University’s electric Formula SAE team. It was designed to meet the following requirements:
- The pedal must mount to a standard Wilwood master cylinder
- Must withstand 4000N of force (solidworks simulation)
- Be made of aluminium or steel
- Must be lighter than 2kg
- Must be floor mounted
My design weighed in at just under 1.8kg and used a mix of lightweight aluminum for the faceplate and steel for the larger arm for structural integrity.
Overall my design could withstand forces well over the minimum required without any issues no matter where the force was applied on the pedal assembly.
